Sumak Kawsay

Statement of Good Practice

Our ethical principles, rooted in good living and reverence for nature.

General principles

Culture of Good Living

The Yachay, Kurakas, and apprentices of the Sumak Kawsay Church commit to sustaining the culture of good living, favoring healthy ways of life for individuals, the environment, and the whole community.

Education

All those who work on behalf of the Sumak Kawsay Church commit to placing their knowledge at the service of human growth, both as individuals and as a community. The whole organism of the church, its various parts and diverse functions, works together to share the ancestral teachings and knowledge the church holds. Our commitment to the formation of apprentices, students, and those who connect with our organization is living and ongoing.

The tools related to ecclesiastical cultural and ceremonial activities, based on the application of the principles, knowledge, and models of Sumak Kawsay, are specific to professionals authorized by the church's board of directors. The teaching of these tools is reserved for recognized students and apprentices.

Action

We are aware that our ceremonies and rituals can influence the lives of those who participate in them. We therefore commit to remaining attentive to the factors that affect the social and personal lives of participants, so that our actions do not serve inappropriate ends, and the trust generated is not used for purposes other than religious practice.

The Yachay, Kurakas, and apprentices of the church commit to not harming those with whom they interact in their ministerial role, and to not using their position or their ceremonial tools to obtain undue advantages.

Communication

Yachay, Kurakas, and apprentices commit to representing the church with professionalism, dignity, and transparency. Their communication is grounded in truthfulness, respect, and clarity, both in verbal expression and through media and social networks. The church rejects and denounces all forms of communication that cause distancing, the destruction of relationships, or discrimination.

Self-regulation and reporting concerns

Sumak Kawsay Foundation, Church of Good Living, is a member of the Sacred Plant Alliance (SPA), a self-regulating foundation of churches dedicated to accountability and transparency in sacramental communities.

When ethical concerns or adverse experiences arise, we recommend first attempting to resolve them within the resources available in our community. Members may contact the board of directors through our contact form.

If a member considers it necessary to report a serious problem or seek help from outside the community, they may file a report of ethical concern, violation, or serious adverse event directly with SPA:

Member safety

The physical, emotional, and spiritual safety of our members is a central priority of the church. All Yachay, Kurakas, and apprentices are bound by this ethical code.

Members have the right to raise concerns without fear of retaliation, through the internal or external channels described above.
